The North Kingstown Police Department's Investigation Division is a 6 member division comprised of a Commanding Officer, holding the rank of Detective Lieutenant, a Detective Seargent, and four Detectives, and one Secretary.
The primary mission of the Investigation Division is to solve and successfully prosecute all major crimes occurring within the Town of North Kingstown.
In addition to conducting criminal investigations this Division performs other functions and services. Within the Investigation Division, there are four general areas of function – they are: The Youth Services Bureau, Primary Investigations, Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) and the Office of Detective Commander (Commanding Officer).
Youth Services Bureau - This unit is responsible for the investigation of all crimes committed by or concerning a juvenile offender or juvenile victim.
Primary Investigation Bureau - The focus of this unit is major crime cases and other investigative matters involving adult offenders and other criminal activity.
The Bureau of Criminal Identification - This unit is responsible for providing specialized services with respect to the science and technique of fingerprinting, photography and the collection, preservation and presentation of all physical evidence, including trace evidence.
Office of Detective Commander - This unit is responsible for the administration and supervision of the Youth Services Bureau, the Primary Investigation Bureau, and BCI.
